When looking for a job on the Internet, you never know for sure which offer is trustworthy and which is not.

So, before you answer or even set the date of an interview, you definitely should look for any red flags you can find. Sometimes it is more obvious, sometimes it is something completely rational and logical and sometimes it is just a certain feeling and you have to trust your gut. Here are some guidelines on how to assess your potential risks.

Do you know who this employer really is?

You’re reading a job offer and you are naturally trying to google the author. But, you cannot find any names, any webs or you can find some very fragmentary information. Maybe you can find the company but it is not clear who owns it or what area they specialize in. Or it is not apparent what their financial and legal status is. It might be just the fact some people do not like to disclose much information about them or their company but definitely be cautious about signing anything before you are sure.

Is the offer vague and unclear?

Do they give you at least some basic information about the job in the ad or not? And if not, are they willing to tell you via e-mail or phone? Because if you don’t know anything beforehand, it is easier to manipulate you to accept conditions you might hesitate to even consider if you were thinking about it without the pressure. And if you think we exaggerate a little, it might be so, but many MLMs or other schemes often use these techniques.

Always stay safe

If the offer and the people aren’t completely open and clear and yet you want to say yes to an interview, you can take your chances. But make sure somebody close to you knows where and when the interview takes place and always have your phone with you in case you need to call for help. It might be just a little shady offer that you simply won’t accept but it also can be a more serious situation. But you don’t have to worry about that on our job posting sites MyJobsi.
